ATTACK ON PAKISTANI PRISON FREES MORE THAN 250 HARD CORE TALIBAN PRISONERS

Islamist radicals have attacked a prison in North West Pakistan and freed more than 250 prisoners.  Some of the prisoners were among the most wanted and dangerous of the terrorists held in the prison.

The militants attacked the prison in a commando fashion, 70 strong, and first broke down the walls by launching rocket propelled grenades and other explosives.

The attack left many soldiers and some of the Shi'a prisoners dead.  Two civilians were also killed.

In what seems to be a multi-country effort to free some of the most valuable and top ranking taliban/al qaeda militants, this week has seen three such attacks all the from Iraq to Pakistan.

The militants were so aggressive that the initial explosion to create the breach was so strong it rocked houses blocks away.

Security forces tried to push back the militants but were not able to stop the attack.  Some of the attackers were dressed in Pakistani official police garb, a tactic often employed by the taliban.  Once the walls were breached, the militants then rode inside on motorcycles adorned with taliban flags.

The taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack and said that some of the militants were strapped with explosives on their bodies and were responsible for the initial detonations.

The Army was called in to try to stop the militants and recapture the prisoners.

One of the prisoners that escaped was the talibani militant who just recently wrote a letter to Malala Yousafzai, the young girl nearly killed by the taliban for her efforts in promoting education for your females.
