LARGEST METEORITE YET FOUND IN ANTARCTICA

Scientist may have found the largest meteorite yet while in the Antarctic continent.  The find could be very important in understanding our solar system and its dynamics.

Scientists at a Belgian base in Antarctica have found a meteorite weighing nearly 40 pounds on the Nansen Ice Field.  The total bounty of meteorites found in that expedition is 425 pieces for a total weight of almost 150 pounds.

The scientists are surprised to have found such a large meteorite in that locale.  Meteorites so far have not been found in such quantities and size in the frozen continent.

Meteorites are in fact usually pretty small when they reach earth, mostly due to the fact that the meteors brake up before impact, just like the one that recently hit Russia, therefore a meteorite of this size is a great find.
