Invisibility is becoming a reality not everyone is comfortable with, but which is here to stay.
The thermal invisibility cloak unveiled this week in a demonstration, is designed to make objects undetectable by hiding the heat inherent in the object.
The prototype, made of copper has a region at the center that creates a zone that does not allow heat to flow in. It enables heat to flow around the central part but not in it.
This has the effect of 'cloaking' the center region and making it look as it is not there, as if there is a void where the center is.
This is accomplished by concentric rings around it, that detour the heat away from the center.
The discovery is also very important for application in situations where heat must be diverted from cooling system for example, and many other industrial applications.
