In the town of Potiskum, Nigeria, the rebels have once more left their indelible, frightening mark.

The problems in the Delta region have become a threat to national security and international commerce, as rebels raid and plunder oil installations.  The attack however, was deliberately  done to instill fear on international workers on location in Nigeria for the polio vaccination drive.  Amongst the dead were nine women in neighboring Kano, and three north Korean doctors in Potiskum.

The doctors were killed in a machete attack in their own homes.

The doctors, initially reported as being Chinese, had been working in the province since 2005.  They lived without security escort, moving liberally about town.

Although roundups have yielded 'suspects', those who are familiar with the turmoil of the area suspect an extremist Islamic sect called Boko Haram, whose name means 'western education is sacrilege'.

The sect, have come to prominence in the past year for their repeated attacks of government building and security forces installations.
