THE DISCOVERY OF MARIA HIGHLIGHTS THE DARKNESS THAT PERVADES THE CRIMINAL UNDERWORLD IN THE EU: ABDUCTED CHILDREN COULD BE FROM SEX SLAVES, OR KIDNAPPED FOR PROFIT

The story of little Maria, the blond, blue eyed child found in a Roma camp, highlights a very dark and dangerous trend that is becoming more frequent in the Roma encampments and that runs parallel to many crime syndicates, including those that deal in sex slavery, child pornography and kidnapping for luchre.

In the case of Maria the child may have been abducted to gain access to child benefits from the Greek government.  In fact the couple have 14 children many of whom are believed to be kidnapped, or at least not biological.

But the trend is starting to show a worrisome increase.

In addition to Maria, another blond blue eyed girl was found to be living with Romas in Ireland, after the photos of Maria prompted a whistleblower to alert authorities to the similar situation he had observed in the suburb of Tallaght, in south Dublin.

Tips that try to reconnect Maria with her family are coming fast and furious.  But the truth is that we may never know who her mother is.  If she is the child of a sex slave, or has been obtained from a mother who has been forced or paid to give birth abroad in a child pornography or other child exploitation ring, the mother will not be able to claim her child.

For now, the authorities are trying their best to figure out the mystery.  One US couple has tried to make contact with Greek authorities believing that the child could be their abducted tot, who disappeared in 2011.  However, Maria was deemed to be 5 or 6 years old, after examination of dental records.

Since time immemorial, gypsies and Roma, although not the same, have been shunned as criminals. In many cases, even decades ago, there were tales of children disappearing after their nomadic forays in certain European countries.  At that time, the children were believed to be taken so that they could be used in begging, which many Roma and Gypsy children do from a very young age.

But the new realities of the EU, and the depth and brutality of European organized crime syndicates, point to even more dangerous and gruesome possibilities in the face of such discoveries, as the one when Maria was found.

One of the hypotheses behind Maria's abduction or abandonment is that she may have been born of a Bulgarian woman who was brought to Greece specifically to give birth in that country, so that the fair skinned child could be then placed for sale.

Maria for a while was forced to dance to obtain money in her little 'shows' and was generally ill treated.  Her frame is slight and she seems to be smaller than her dental records age projection suggests.

For now, the future for Maria looks brighter, but there needs for more vigilance and inculsion of Roma or nomadic tribes must be planned to avoid this kind of event.
