Seven paintings looted from Jewish homes by the Nazis have been returned to their original owner after a painstaking investigation.

The art was stolen in the 1930s, and was returned to the survivors of the families from whom the art was stolen.

Of the six pieces of art, four hung in the Louvre for decades.  All six pieces belonged to Richard Neumann. A seventh was  stolen from Josef Wiener, a banker.  The French government validated their descendants' claim of ownership in 2012.

All seven art pieces were destined to an art gallery that Hitler wanted to build in Linz, the city where he grew up in Austria.

The six works that once belonged to Neumann will now be restored by his grandson, Tom Selldorff, who lives in the United States.

  1. Wasn't there a bunch found in and returned from Saint Petersburg a few years ago?
