CARBON SPONGE COULD SOAK UP COAL EMISSIONS

An energy efficient material has been discovered that could significantly absorb carbon dioxide emissions from coal fired plants.  It seems this 'sponge' captures the CO2 and then releases it when exposed to sunlight.

The material, known as photosensitive metal organic framework (MOF) is a material known for its storage capacity, which could hold the CO2 and possibly allow it to be recycled.

By utilizing sunlight to release the stored carbon, the material bypasses conventional and expensive methods of CO2 capture, making the process efficient and low cost.
