In the seesaw that has been the prosecution of elected President Mohammed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian military seems to have no qualms in turning the screws on the figurehead of the Brotherhood, at least for the time being, and the entire group, with the long term goal of calling a semi permanent ban from holding office for all participants and members in the Brotherhood.
Aside from his indefinite detention, the military has now levied additional charges against the deposed president and they stem from an incident that goes back to the time when Morsi and other Brotherhood members escaped prison during the civil unrest of 2011.
The military is now accusing Morsi of not only having been freed by terrorist groups abroad, specifically Hamas and Hezbollah, but also of conspiring with them in a long term plan to bring terrorism to Egypt through the alliance.
More serious are the charges that Morsi was illegally funding terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah, according to the filing, with the intent of organizing a worldwide terrorist agenda for the Muslim Brotherhood.
Together with Morsi, stand accused 34 more members of the Brotherhood for the same charges.
It seems that the military is trying to secure a lengthy sentence by piling together as many offences as possible, including an indictment for providing foreign entities with Egyptian military secrets.
Another accusation sees the Brotherhood responsible for arms smuggling through the Gaza tunnels, and the transit of Hezbollah member sthrough the same avenues into Egypt to train Brotherhood members.
