RUSSIA'S PUSH TO BREAK THE BACK OF CAUCASIAN SEPARATISTS

Putin's frantic push to secure the Sochi games, might have meted its first high stake target.

The head of Chechn rebel leaders, Doku Umarov, the separatists' own 'bin Laden', hs reportedly been killed by Russian forces.  Another high profile target, the widow of the bomber who committed suicide less than two weeks ago in a terrorist bombing in Volgograd, is also being intensely sought.

Umarov was a legendary figure among rebels.  His death, which has not been officially confirmed, has been declared several times in the past leading some to believe that this time too, his death might have been faked to stave off possible attempts at his capture by Russian forces.

Umarov had recently made specific threats against the Sochi olympics.  The possibility that he has been killed is quite strong, but there has been no corroborative evidence.  The only confirmation of something happening to Umarov is the intercepted chat between rebels that discusses the possible replacement of Umarov.

To further bolster the claim of his demise, are audio recordings from Daghestani, a sharia judge in the Caucasus closely affiliated with the group, in which he asserted that the claims are true.

Many believe that the removal of Umarov has thrown the Chechen rebels plans into chaos, and that his replacement is possibly taking precedence to any other action.

Umavor's name came to the fore after the bombing at the Domededovo airport in 2011, which left 37 dead and more than 180 injured, and other large scale attacks in the Moscow subway.

The Sochi games meanwhile are been heavily guarded by heavy military and police contingents.
