A RARE DRUG BUST IN THE EMIRATES UNCOVERS A 31 MILLION DOLLAR DRUG CACHE

A rare drug bust in the Emirates has netted drug authorities a huge cache of amphetamies, worth in street value over 31 million dollars.

The bust comes on the heels of a long term operation called "nine ball".

The cache consisted of Captagon pills, which used to be the name of the legal drug phenethylline.

This represents one of the biggest busts this year.  It is also the biggest bust of amphetamines in the UAE.  Because of strict laws and vigorous prosecution, there are no drug labs in the UAE, so all drugs are smuggled from neighboring countries.

The street drug is cut with amphetamines and caffeine and is very popular in the Emirates.

A few people have already been arrested in connection with the bust, most of them Arab nationals.
