ISRAEL'S HARDLINE EXTENDS TO POOR MIGRANTS AND ILLEGAL ALIENS

Israel seems to want to justify everything under the umbrella of terrorism prevention. or just keeping an orderly state.  Taking a page out of the US's treatment of suspected terrorists,  but using for much lesser offenses, the Parliament of Israel has just passed a measure that allows incarceration of illegal migrants from Africa for up to a year, without redress, recourse, or any other measure that could allow the incarcerated to challenge their imprisonment.

But let's look at the bright side: the prior law, which this one amended, actually allowed incarceration for up to three years without recourse or legal aid.

There are a number of African migrants who cross the Sinai and enter Israel illegally, and this the Israeli say, threatens the cultural fabric of their state.

Last year, Israel rounded up 60,000 Africans and deported almost 4,000 of them.  In addition it has built a high tech fence on the Sinai to obviate the situation.

To accomodate the 'growing' number of detained migrants, Israel has built a super center able to accomodate much larger number, and this facility is not just for those who are entering illegally, but also for those who are already in Israel and causing 'disturbances to the public order'.  There is no word whether the detention center is integrated, but at first sight, it appears to have been dedicated solely to people of African descent.  The authorities hope that the facility will be able to hold a maximum of 11,000 people.

In Netanyahu's words, the detention center, whose doors wold actually be open during the day, would "allow us to keep illegals away from our cities."

Maybe that is why, Mr. Netanyahu skipped the Mandela ceremonies.  It might be dangerous for him to travel to South Africa, considering that he is, building a de facto apartheid state in his country.   Oh I forgot, it was already an apartheid state.
