Germany is a place where innovation happens, and novel ideas abound. But the newest addition to oddities and discoveries has some people scratching their head.
A new magazine will be launched soon for all those people who hate dogs. Yes you read right, hate dogs. But why? Why would such a magazine even be necessary?
The founder of the new magazine is crowdfunding the launch with the help of those people who see dogs not as friendly pets but as a scourge from which they want to run away or better still to be spared from altogether.
But such iniative, especially in print, could spell trouble. If people go beyond venting on the magazine, and forget the old wisdom of tolerance and patience, the magazine could veritably be the beginning of dog hating campaigns and other activities aimed at reducing the presence of the ubiquitous pets.
Now, to be fair, we all have had our encounters with the pesky side of pet-dom. Who hasn't howled at the neighbor to shut his dog up in the middle of the night, or had to pick up offending droppings on the lawn from uncaring dog owners.
But a magazine? Really? Germans by nature are known to love their pets, sometimes even at the expense of their own children.
But the founder, Mr. Beleites, assures his public that his intent is simply to balance what is otherwise a world that gives multiple voices only to dog lovers.
What is a bit astonishing about the founder of the magazine, is the fact that he wants to raise awareness of the 'dark' side of petdom.
In his words, "There are not enough Dog haters". Although he asserts that such quips are satirical in nature, many people might not get the slant he offers and decide that action should be needed in the future to 'cure' the scourge of dog offenses.
However, Beleites is beginning a print magazine at a time when even august publications are suffering due to Internet traffic and the switch many are making to obtain news that are not in print.
It remains to be seen then, what the magazine's articles will engender. Some predict a quick death, others instead predict that the founder might make hay, or money, out of veritable dog poop.
