A new programs has been created that employs computational methods devised for the prediction of epileptic seizures.
The program promises to provide predictions with at least 70% accuracy, something that could be very useful to sufferers in order to avoid dangerous activity in what would be the 'predicted' peak hours that lead to a seizure. It also would enable those with the life threatening form of the condition, to seek help before the seizures strikes.
In the US alone, there are 23 million people who suffer from epilepsy in one form or another. Epilepsy is caused by a disruption of the brain cell pathways. Such disruptions can be brief or can they can be devastatingly long.
The program avails itself of an EEG data responder which transmits the individual's EEG on real time basis, which could then trigger a warning.
What is more important, the program can use the models to predict almost 30 minutes in advance of the event, giving the sufferer ample time to avert the emergency.
Of course the program will need to have some sort of device implanted in the skull or above to provide the telemetry, which then relays the data to the analyzing program.
For those sufferers with the worst type of seizures, the program could become a definite life saver.
