THE GROWING EVIDENCE OF CALCIUM'S ESSENTIAL ROLE IN OUR WELLBEING

Calcium has been found recently to play a major role in many more body functions than previously thought.

A new research has found that a flash of calcium at the cellular process is the first 'trigger' in repairing damaged tissue.  The trigger is then followed by the activation of the DUOX enzyme, which in turn synthetizes Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2), which is what attracts white blood cells to the damaged tissue.  This first response is essential to stave off the onset of bacterial infections and therefore promote healthy and efficient healing.

This finding has many implications: the first would be to determine how it can be used to speed up healing during surgery or following injury.

Before such finding are employed however, scientists need to fine tune the process, since too much intervention of white blood cells can cause excessive scarring.
