The news that Iranian military might be involved in aiding Bashar al'Assad's bloody campaign to retake his country is not earth shattering.

What is interesting is the admission on Iran's part of the death of the Commander, a member of the elite Iranian Revolutionary Guard, who has been killed by the rebels.

The rebels also independently confirmed the news, although no specific group claimed responsibility.

The commander, who was in charge of overseeing the 'reconstruction' of Lebanon, according to Iranian authorities, was killed in Syria close to the border with Lebanon.

The Iranian government has never denied the presence of its military in Syria to aid al'Assad, but they always sustained that their presence was non-military, and that the orders to become involved militarily might come is foreign nations intervene in the conflict.

For their part, Iran's officials have ramped up the rethoric in this case as the ambassador to Lebanon has declared the slain commander a 'humanitarian, who is a dear martyr, a clear sign that the Zionist enemy does not accept his work.".
