Famous philosopher and literary figure Bernard Henri Levy was recently banned from visiting Libya during Sarkozy's visit on account of his Jewish faith.

Bernard Henri Levy, some will remember, was a fierce advocate of the regime change during the Lybia conflict and supported the British/French military intervention that secured the removal of the dictator Ghadafi.  He is also believed to have been the mind behind the change of heart of the then president Nicholas Sarkozy in providing French warplanes to the effort of aiding the opposition.

According to a French Radio station, Mr. Levy was barred from visiting Lybia solely due to his religious belief and background.  The excuse was formulated as a precaution to keep him safe from Islamist Militia.

In response, Mr. Sarkozy told Lybian authorities that he was canceling the visit, but Mr. Levy told the former French president to go on without him, and show his support for France's friends in Libya who themselves are targets of Islamist militia.
