SWISS BABY FORMULA ADULTERATED BY THE CHINESE OF HERO GROUP

The name Hero has been a quality product on people's table for decades.  The Swiss company makes many products besides their famous jams, including baby formula.

Some of the baby formula produced in Switzerland is then sent to China, where a parent company is supposed to package and distribute it.

But tests on the formula revealed that it has been adulterated by the parent company after it reached China.

Hero has filed a criminal complaint against its parent company, Xile Lier, for among other things, mixing formula that was past its sell date and mixing it with the new batches from Hero.

The representative of the Chinese company is being held for criminal activities by Chinese authorities, who are very sensitive to tampering with baby formula after the melamine scandal that killed 6 babies and sickened more than 300,000 in 2008.

Since that time, Chinese rely on imported baby formula which they feel is more secure.  Until now that is.  Some travellers even buy the formula in bulk abroad and then ship it back to China.

The Police in Suzhou, where the parent company operates, has already shut down all operations, after they found further evidence of tampering with the product, such as changing sell by dates and labeling less nutritious formula for older children as the more expensive and nutritious one for infants.

However, there has not been a recall of the products distributed by the company, which bear the label 'Hero Nutradefence', that are still available to shoppers in supermarkets.
