QUANTICO IN LOCKDOWN DURING THE NIGHT AFTER A MURDER SUICIDE BY AN ACTIVE-DUTY MARINE

Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia was on lockdown overnight due to a tragedy that unfolded close to midnight.

An on duty marine started firing at the Officer Candidate School of the Marine Corps Base in Quantico.  He struck a fellow marine and killed him.

Then he took a female Marine with him and barricaded himself.  Not long after, gunshots were heard.  The gunman had shot both the woman and himself, in an apparent murder suicide.

The members of the Marine Corps who have died have not been named yet.  The suspect was identified only insofar as he is believed to be part of the cadet school staff, as was one of the victims.

This incident comes just a few days after a tragic accident took the life of 7 active duty Marines during a mortar explosion in Nevada. In that incident, the mortar round exploded before it exited the tube, killing all seven and wounding eight others who were in the proximity of the explosion.
