THE CURIOUS CASE OF THE IRAN-ARGENTINA INVESTIGATION ON THE BOMBING OF THE JEWISH CENTRE IN BUENOS AIRES

A curious event is causing protests in Buenos Aires.  An investigation on the bombing of the Jewish Centre in the capital city, is said to have been a joint effort between Iranian and Argentine police forces.

But why?

If one is to believe a recent report, Iranians are aggressively recruiting an 'invisible army' in Latin America, in order to penetrate the US border through invisible agents, people who are converted to the Iranian cause and can pass undetected. These news come from a tabloid publication called 'The Blaze'.

It is true that the publication is owned by Glenn Beck, who is a crusader so fierce, he has often been compared to nazi leaders, but Beck apparently is citing a US government source, which says that 10% of all Muslims are terrorists.

Obviously such drivel is fodder for all sort of conspiracy buffs.  And it can cause a backlash which could be more dangerous than the actual, underlying fact.   But there might be a tiny grain of truth in these statements. But the whole truth, shows a completely different picture.

As evidence of this 'islamization' of the southern hemisphere some others cite Farsi tattoos worn by latino gangs in the US.  They contend that Mexico is increasingly being eyed as a possible route for muslim agents who are ethnically unrecognizable.

There is in fact an Islamic site in Spanish, called Islamoriente.com which is filled with vitriolic hatred and violent utterances.

Some say that the origin of this Latin American route undertaken by Iran began when a Mexican student went to study in Iran and came back relating news of the direct efforts from Iranians to 'convert' other latinos studying in that country. Latin America is not new to anti American sentiment. In fact all along the central and southern American states, the rethoric often if not always is hostile to the US, which is blamed for everything from droughts to illnesses to poverty.

It is little mystery then, that latinos could adopt a view that is inimical to the US via an Islamic doctrine route.

However, the State Department has issued a report that shows that Iranian influence in the southern hemisphere is waning, not growing.

And that's where the investigation in the Jewish centre bombing comes in. The author of the report on Iranian's plan to 'take over' the world and Latin America also tried to tie the bombing of the Jewish centre in Buenos Aires directly on Iran.  However, his propaganda move backfired when a respected and award winning journalist, Gareth Porter, debunked the theory, in an article published on the Nation, in which he detailed how Iran would have been pretty daft to bomb the centre at a time when Iran is trying to bring Argentina to the table to resume stalled nuclear energy negotiations.
