CHINA READY TO EXPAND ELECTRIC CAR PROGRAMME

China is tackling its growing pollution problem by promoting and subsidizing electric cars.

At first the program was set up for five cities, but the government has now upgraded the program and added 25 more cities to it.

The government would also adopt a unified national subsidy standard.  The subsidy policy will be issued very soon, after two sessions of the NPC and CPPCC.

The program first introduced in 2010, could see subsidization of nearly 60,000 renminbi (yuan), a sum of approximately 9,630 US dollars. However that program has expired and the new subsidies now come from the local governments, who also decide the amount for each region.
