The skies seem to be awfully busy lately. Then again, we have the illusion that the skies are calm when things don't hit us foursquare. In truth, and without alarming anyone, there is a whole lot of activity going on, at all times.
First the asteroid, beaten to the punch by a wily meteor, that crashed into Russia.
Then of course, there are the sightings, Cuba, California etc. Most are agreed that these sighting were of the same meteor, which streaked across the sky until it disintegrated slightly above a Russian city, pelting thousand with fragments and shattering windows with its sound wave.
Now a report of sightings in Florida has everyone wondering whether we are being veritably pelted from the sky.
The Coast Guard in Florida has been flooded with calls, most of them at about 19:00 hours of yesterday, 2.18.13. Reports said that numerous people watched luminous objects streaking across the sky, from Jacksonville to Key West.
But experts say these meteor showers are not unexpected or unusual. Events like these, astronomists contend, are not uncommon, and when they happen they can be seen by a number of people in different regions.
Nevertheless some people are on edge, due to what they see as the disturbing frequency of the phenomena observed in the past week.
But some in the Coast Guard think this might not have been a meteor shower at all, since it was too luminous and traveled too slowly to be a meteor shower. They surmise the reports are coming in because people are on edge, and are more aware of what is happening in the sky.
