India has been the victim of a powerful blasts today in the city of Hyderabad, in Andhra Pradesh state.

The explosive device appeared to have been purposely left and timed to people's exit from a nearby cinema.

The blast is believed to have claimed 11 lives and injured 50.

A second blast was reported was heard 10 minutes later.   The total death toll could be as high as 15.

The area where the explosive devices were placed is a very trafficked area because of the nearby bazaars.  Mostly young people gather there in the evening.

An unspecified threat was allegedly reported a couple of days ago.  Unfortunately the threat alert dispersed by the authorities did not include specific information on the time and place where the terrorist act would take place.

The muslim group Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami (HUJI) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The city has a sizable Muslim presence, and there is a long history of tensions in the city between Muslims and Hindus.  In fact Hyderabad has been the target of at least nine attacks since 1992.
