A scandal is rocking a Michigan hospital after a lawsuit was brought against it for racial discrimination.
The suit alleges that the hospital granted a request from a racist caucasian male, covered in swastika tattoos, that no black nurses care or touch his newborn baby.
Two african american employees at the Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan are suing on grounds of discrimination after they were reassigned to comply with the father's racist request.
One of the nurses who has brought the suit is a 25 year veteran neo-natal intensive care unit nurse. She said she was removed when the father approached the supervisor and made his request.
Not only was she allegedly reassigned that day, but the next day a sign at the door read: 'no African Americans to care for baby."
For an entire month allegedly no black nurses were allowed to care for the infant, despite notice from hospital lawyers of the consequences of keeping the sign in place.
Hospital officials have denied acquiescing to the father's demands. But the supervisor asserted that the man's behavior prompted the action because they were afraid for the safety of the [african-american] staff.
