A new trend, which has little to do with true biker gangs, but seems to be aimed at causing mayhem incited by a tweet or a post, is taking hold in America.
Just last week a terrifying incident left a business executive lying in the streets of New Yoik, after being severely beaten, under the terrified eyes of his wife and child. That man is still in intensive care and could have been paralyzed.
This is a random type of violence. The gangs are not affiliated to any club, they just gather under the same banner of random violence, reminiscent of the movie the Clockwork Orange.
The rogues also film their escapades, and post them on youtube or other social sites, basically making the posting of their stunts the ends for which they create the violent confrontations.
In some cases, because they ride very fast 'crotch rockets' as is known in biker lingo, the police cannot effectively chase them through traffic, without endangering other drivers. This has emboldened the gangs, who gather randomly in places and find an unwitting victim or police they then proceed to terrify.
They do not only try to make the driver crash, they also shoot or stab. These groups, or fast bike gangs, are becoming a very dangerous aspect of the American road, which is prompting action at the national level to devise a plan to stop their activity.
Police is also concerned it will lead to copy cat stunts, with even more violence, since the groups feel they cannot be caught with conventional police vehicles.
The groups often meet loosely at some event, in the case of New York it was called Hollywood STuntz. They send out the call through the social media, and it is considered an 'underground' meeting, since it is not publicized in an overt way. After they gather they go out on the city or highly trafficked areas and perform stunts and taunt drivers.
The people who gather under this banner, are not conventional bike gangs, who fight for territory or deal drugs. They have no feuds with other 'gangs' or like groups, and do not behave like traditional outlaw motorcycle gangs.
They are often white, but they are much more racially diverse than traditional outlaw bikers.
The violence often occurs as a secondary event to the stunts. In fact most of the bikers are out to show off and film their stunts, but when the adrenaline of the rush sets in, the situation can quickly deteriorate. What can occur is that mob mentality sets in, or one of the member begins a violent event, and all of the others follow.
What started as a stunt fad, has in fact turned to a new way to create chaos and violence, and authorities are very concerned of the possible escalation in the violent tone of the events.
And the groups are also becoming larger in numbers, which could in itself pose more danger to the riders and the people around them.
