Three new countries have been given a seat at the UN, but even before the protests could circle the world, Saudi Arabia has refused the privilege, citing 'irreconcilable' differences between the kingdom of Saud and the ethics of the UN.
The principal bone of contention now is Syria. In the eyes of the Saudi potentates, the UN has failed to prevent and even worse, end the bloody civil war.
What Saudi Arabia sees as imperatives, the UN sees as dual opportunities, or lack thereof. In general however, the UN is seen as incompetent and inefficient in ending conflict worldwide, according to the statement issued by the Saudis.
This 'double standard', which clouds both the intentions and actions of the UN security council, is something the Saudis cannot adhere to through their presence.
Without the proper changes made, the UN council is seen as an inefficient tool of some superpowers, and not an organization intent at bettering the people's condition in strife torn countries. However, the Saudis did not offer any advice on what those changes should be.
Another longstanding grudge held by the Saudis is the UN"s inability to end the occupation of the Palestinian territories, which is a decades old issue that needs resolving before a fair and equitable course can be taken by the seated members of the UN.
