According to some experts, China's economy would be almost a trillion dollar larger, if one used economic statistics published in the Economic Information Daily.
The country's economic site has published a GDP tally that reached almost .6 trillion dollars higher than the official numbers published by Beijing's central authorities at almost the same time.
These anomalies are nothing new, but the numbers and the frequency of these 'errors' have increased significantly in recent years.
Where the problems lies, some say, is in the fact that local bean counter try to pad their numbers to show a better result than the true economic picture, in order to look better in the eyes of the ruling party and obtain promotions or other accolades.
The 2007 premier, Li Keqiang, expressed secretly that these discrepancies as 'man-made', but the secret was revealed by Wikileaks in 2010.
The new president, Xi Jinping, has tried to diminish the impact of the differences by saying that the official Beijing numbers include other factors rather than simple GDP which explain the signficant incongruence of the separate tallies.
