SYRIA ARMY KILLS 30 DESERTERS AS THEY TRY TO FLEE.
The Syrian forces have killed 30 deserters that were trying to reach a safe area. They were killed by members of the same army they had just deserted.
Opposition forces witnessed the killing near Damascus Airport, as the ex-army members tried to flee.
Thousands of mostly Sunni muslims have already abandoned the army ranks since the uprising began. But the senior ranks and the elite forces are all alawites like Assad, a branch of the Shia religion, and they are believed to be faithful to their leader.
The deserters were trying to reach the rebel posts, but they were intercepted and killed before they could, and the rebels were able to see what ensued. Another seven of the men were wounded and probably taken away.
Just this weekend a rebel faction was able to overrun a missile squadron and got their hands on some surface to air missiles, although they cannot make any use of them. They killed all 30 of the troops ambushed. Several Brigades, including the Sunni Knights stormed the 137th Air Defence Brigade and killed and captured most of the members, a rebel said.
