VODKA DIPLOMACY TO DECIDE SYRIA INTERVENTION? PUTIN HINTS AT NEW POSSIBILITIES

If the Syria conflict was not complicated enough, many different  or conflicting interests are making solutions to the bloody civil war more distant each passing day.

Many countries are expressing dismay at the inability to find a consensus, but also refuse to budge or coalesce around a meaningful plan that could see an end to the bloody war.

But in this latest attempt at resolving the problem, it seems that commercial interests are also playing a role when two countries are at odds over cooperation.

Call it vodka diplomacy, if you may, but at the end of the day, it's a tit for tat, played out almost in real time.

In fact, Russian premier Putin has expressed his willingness to find common ground in the resolution of the Syria crisis, by sitting down over  a glass of 'vodka or wine'

As if that was not a clear enough hint, the discussions quickly veered on the need for better economic and trade exchanges between Russia and the European community.

This was expressed in the frame of talks between France's newly elected premier, Hollande, and the Russian head of state six months ago.  The talks however underscored once more the distance between the two countries when it comes to recognizing the Syrian opposition, which France has already done, but Russia is yet unwilling to do.

However, the Russian politician has given hints lately that he is willing to talk about the matter soon, saying that it is 'warmer over here', but only if other countries bother to find out.
