For a while now activists on the ground in Syria and Human rights watchdog groups have insisted that the Syrian dictator has used chemical weapons, albeit in small doses, on its civilian population and the insurgents.
Many also remember that the employment of such weapons were supposed to be the 'third rail', the line in the sand that when crossed would warrant immediate and significant action from the international community.
It is abundantly clear that the situation in Syria, with many terrorist factions on the ground, be it Hezbollah or other groups, including AQ affiliates who claim to want to help the insurgents in their fight, are making international intervention difficult. But it seems almost counter intuitive, that having given such stern warning on the use of chemical weapons, that no one wants to confirm such use, and worse, act upon its own promise of intervention.
Now Israeli military intelligence is doing what could amount to the ultimate confirmation of Assad's ghastly deeds. They have confirmed that they suspect Assad is using chemical weapons, and that given the darkening picture of the dictator's future, that Israel itself might be targeted next, in an end conflict scenario.
No less than the chief of research and analysis for the Israeli army, Brig. Gen. Itai Brun, has made these statements. This statement could also be the green light for US intervention.
Brun has declared that he has seen photographic evidence and other solid proof of the used of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime.
Some of the signs of such lethal agent use was in the photographs of the victims: dilated pupils, frothing at the mouth, and other incontrovertible physical signs. The B.General believes that the chemicals used were in liquid form, most probably, most probably sarin.
Hagel's office has so far declined to express any opinion on Brun's assertions. Their last statement on the issue is that as of April 11th, the US had not detected any use of chemical weapons.
