French prosecutors are finally setting up an inquiry into whether Sarkozy received illegal funding for his campaign from the Ghaddafi regime.
Many called for the investigation after Sarkozy's abrupt call for military action against the Lybian dictator at the beginning of the civil war. Such readiness was seen as some as a way to conceal a secret about the possible funneling of money to the ex president of France.
Many remembered the entente Sarkozy showed with the Lybian premiere on the occasion of his last official visit to Paris, where he set up a veritable bedouin encampment in the shadows of the Elysee Palace. The visit was a far cry from the swift volte face Sarkozy made when he called for the removal of the Lybian dictator and just as quickly sent his army to aid the combatants .
Sarkozy is already contending with allegations that he subtracted monies from a French L'Oreal heiress who is suffering from Alzeihmer's.
This new inquiry is trying to ascertain whether or not the ex president is guilty of corruption and influence peddling.
Sarkozy has denied the allegations. However, an investigative outfit in France claims to have documentary evidence of a 65.5 million dollar expenditure in support of the campaign from Gheddafi's regime.
Sarkozy is now in a precarious situation, having lost his presidential immunity.
