THE DESTRUCTION OF THE PAST : JINNAH'S HOME IN THE PAKISTANI MOUNTAINS IS DESTROYED BY SEPARATISTS

One of the most revered figures in history, at least as far as the ummah is concerned, is Mohammed Ali Jinnah.

The founding father of Pakistan, and the chief responsible for the partition of the two states, had a quaint country home in the Pakistani mountain that enjoys the same status as US's Mount Vernon.

That however, did not stop the extremists from destroying the hallowed structure.  In what were absurd assaults against the free standing structure, of humble proportions, the extremists torched the 111 year old building and left it in smoldering tatters.

The extremists used Chinese made rocket propelled and hand grenades, remote controlled explosive devices and assault rifles to bring down the structure.

The house where Jinnah, ill with tubercolosis, died only one year after the partition in 1947, was in a quiet hamlet in the Pakistani hills.  It only took the extremists a few minutes to bring it down.  In addition, the flag which sat atop the roof was torn down and burned.

The group claiming responsibility for the attack, calling themselves the Balochistan Liberation Army, is a separatist entity that is agitating for separation from Pakistan's government.

Balochistan is a frontier country: patrolled by Afghani and Pakistani forces, it is populated by people who have never wished to be claimed by any country.  In truth, although Pakistan claims sovereignty on the land, it has done nothing to ameliorate the dismal conditions of the Balochistan province.  In fact, most Pakistani view the people of Balochistan as little more than primitives.

There have also been many cases of disappearing activists from Balochistan who have been taken away as dissidents by Pakistan. In truth, there are many in Pakistan who would like to see Balochistan severed from the mainland, more for prejudicial reasons than for the notion that Pakistan is using Balochistan as a way to assert its military power.

The latest act of the separationists however, will do little to endear them to the Pakistani people, who will no doubt see this violation as an affront to be met with swift retaliatory measures.
