A DRAMATIC INCREASE IN INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE IN US CHILDREN: COULD THE FINDING BE TIED TO GLOBAL CAUSES?

A recent investigation has found that there has been a dramatic increase in the cases of Inflammatory Bowel Disease in U.S. children in the past decade.

The increase is not small: almost 65% in less than 10 years.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a name applied to several conditions and degenative diseases that include Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

What is interesting is that the trend was constant in every age group and in all geographic regions, pointing to a widespread underlying cause.

In addition, the increase in cases is accompanied by a greater severity of the cases, which have necessitated hospitalization.

More research needs to be done, but what is also interesting is that this trend reflects similar spikes in other countries, such as Canada, Scotland, and Finland.
