RUSSIA'S HOMOPHOBIA SPILLS FORTH : RUSSIA TO ADVANCE BILL THAT BANS ADOPTION OF RUSSIAN CHILDREN BY FOREIGN SAME SEX COUPLES

Russia's geography has always allowed it to retain an insular mentality, which defies and ignores the rest of world's opinions or mores.

The latest issues in Russia have much to do with a return to a strange, pre-bolshevik orthodox past, and its victims have been principally gay people.  But so far it had been 'its' gay people.

Now Russia wants to place its reclusive and intransigent imprimatur on foreigners too.  The Duma is proposing, and there is every reason to believe it will be passed, legislation that would effectively bar any foreign gay couple from adopting a Russian child.

The Russian state press cites the lax morals of countries such as France, whose recent laws to recognize gay marriage represent a dangerous example of western morals, as a justification for the pending law, and point to the demonstrations and divisive sentiment which have set the country, in Russia's opinion, on the course to further unrest and strife 'justified' by such liberal measures.

What is more important, and probably the decisive factor in passing the law, is the fact that Putin has put his name on the law, saying that gay marriage runs contrary to 'his' government's concept of "Russian traditional values."
