THE OTHER WHISTLEBLOWER : FOUR STAR GENERAL INVESTIGATED FOR LEAK ON CYBER ATTACK AGAINST IRAN

A scary cyberattack on Iran's nuclear program computers 2a few years ago gave everyone a wake up call.

It was the most dangerous, far reaching attack on any government by any government.

At first the country suspected of leading the attack was Israel.  But then, the revelation came that the U.S. was central to the plan, with Israel as a second tier operator/developer of the botnet worm attack.

Now a four star general is under indictment for leaking information linking the U.S. directly to the attack.

The question in everyone's mind is why someone in such a high position would leak classified information against his own country over such an attack?  There is ample speculation on why someone in that position would blow the whistle on such a delicate, and damning operation.

The leak became part of a book by a New York Times writer, David Sanger.  The book called "Confront and Conceal", revealed the U.S. implication in the Stuxnet virus.

Cartwright, furthermore, was the person who had to relay to President Obama in 2010, that the virus had escaped its narrow target and had infected the wider Internet.  That overspill was due to a programming error, which allowed the virus to escape the Natanz plant in Iran, which was its intended target.

At the time of the revelations about Stuxnet in the New York Times article, and then book, the Republicans made much of the fact that the Obama administration was allowing too much information to escape to the public.

Some believe that Cartwright's leak was due to a perceived slight when he was passed as a candidate for Chairmanship of the Joint Chiefs.  Others however contend that the leak happened before the selection process and was one of the reasons for his non-selection. Cartwright was also cleared of an investigation in which he was accused of misconduct with a female subordinate.
