The CIA has begun shipment of arms for vetted rebels in Syria. They will first be delivered to Jordan, then they will wait for the rebel forces to be vetted before distribution.
The cache is supposed to include light arms, but also antitank missiles.
The CIA is also vetting the groups at this time, and begun initial training of the rebel forces. The agency has also said that their shipment is being synchronized with other shipments from Europe and the Arab states, so that there can be a multi pronged concerted push that would see a bolstered, better armed rebel force by August.
The shipment follows Washington's adoption of France's findings on the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government, which supposedly resulted in the death of 150 people.
Saudi Arabia is slated to furnish shoulder fired antiaircraft missiles, or Manpads. The Manpads would be restricted to a small group, facilitating the tracking of the device from falling into the wrong hands.
The CIA in fact, had begun to store Soviet era weapons, including Kalashnikov munitions for use in the civil war, in advance of a direct order by Obama for military support of the rebels.
