A secret report compiled by Greek authorities has uncovered a secret that might enrage the Greek community: Germany owes Greece billions of dollar in World War 2 reparations.
Unfortunately the leaked documents also shows that the Greek government is unwilling to force the issue with its debtor country, Germany, at a time when the reparation money could all but solve its debt.
The report details how Germany never repaid Greece for loans it was forced to provide to Germany during the war period and for the damages inflicted to it during the great war.
There was not total tally of the alleged debt, but the conclusion was arrived at by scouring hundred of thousands of documents, some of which were scattered or thrown into bales in some forgotten gov't. basement.
However the figure hovered around 108 billion Euro for reparations and 52 billion Euros for the repayment of the forced loans, enough to both repay its bailout and reverse the fortunes of the country.
Unfortunately, Germany is ignoring any attempt to address this issue, nor is Greece willing to rock the boat at a time when it finds itself so vulnerable.
The government of Greece, in fact, has already declared that whatever decision is made on the pursuit of the matter, that it will rest with the top level of the Greek government, and Mr. Samaras, the Prime Minister. They also declared unashamedly that 'this is no time to pick a fight with Berlin'.
