In what is a first from Russia, 36 tonnes of humanitarian aid has been sent from the Russian government, aboard Ilyushin cargo planes, to the Syrian refugees in Syria.
Although Moscow has been a staunch supporter of Al Assad, there have been indications from Moscow that Russia would like to see a resolution to the civil war, with or without Al Assad. Unfortunately, it blames the rebels' unwillingness to negotiate with the dictator for the conflict's irresolution.
Russia plans to send further shipments in the weeks to come.
