NEW RESEARCH SHOWS THAT OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS SLOW GROWTH CERTAIN TYPES OF BREAST CANCER

Omega 3 fatty acids have become a mainstay in healthy supplementation of diet and health regimens.

They are associated with benefits for cardiovascular disease, lung and respiratory disease and a number of other conditions.

But the role of omega 3 fatty acids and its role in breast cancer has just been discovered.  And in some of the worse cases of breast cancer, such as in the proliferation of triple negative breast cancer cells, it has been shown to slow and in some cases stop their growth.

However, the fatty acids and their metabolic by products have a contrasting effect on all cancerous cells.  But it seems particularly effective in those types of breast cancer cells where the reduction appeared to be as much as 90%.

This discovery highlights once more how important it is to choose our food carefully, as it has an incredible impact on our bodies.  What we eat and the compounds in it, play a vital role and interact with our ability to fight cancer.

This research was done on the heels of the discovery that a Mediterranean diet resulted in a lower incidence of breast cancer.  And that is because there is a much higher consumption of fish in that diet.

And the discovery, that omega 3 fatty acids help tripe negative tumors, which are the hardest to treat and the ones with the worse prognosis, is a very positive one for those individuals who are afflicted with the disease or are at risk from it.

The discovery specifically outlines how the metabolites of omega 3 fatty acids undermine all cell proliferation in tumors, but they were much more efficient in inhibiting proliferation in the triple negative cells.  The study also concluded that the motility of cells was reduced by 20-30 %.
