WHAT WE'VE COME TO: WORLD WAR II ALASKA FORT TO BECOME BEST HOPE FOR INTERCEPTION OF NORTH KOREA STRIKE

With all the might and power of the American Army, it seems a lonely little base off the coast of Alaska is our best defence against Kim Jug Un's frail attempts at starting a nuclear conflict.

Enter Fort Greely, Alaska.  The World War II base was just re-opened in 2004 and it is the only land based platform from which to intercept anything the young dictator might lobby at the United States.

The small base is no slouch though.  It has 26 missile interceptors in as many silos, which have been tested and are ready for a go (at least at a 50% proven rate).

The small base of around 800 acres is about 100 miles from the city of Fairbanks, right below the grand spectacle of the Denali National Park.

The only other base in the west coast that is combat ready is an even smaller facility in Vandeberg Air Force Base in California.

According to most experts, the Alaska based Greely is fully equipped to handle the North Korean threat, although few believe the threat will be carried out.
