The fabled island of Skorpios has been shuttered since the days right after shipping magnate Aristotele Onassis' only daughter died suddenly decades ago.
Since then, its splendor has remained even more secret that it was before. And Onassis' only heir, Athina, wants nothing to do with Greece or the island, and does not even know how to speak her mother's language.
This was the same island where paparazzi haunted Jaqueline Kennedy until they were able to take pictures of her bathing nude on the island. It is also the place where Onassis married Kennedy's widow.
Now the island has been sold for 150 million dollars to Russian heiress Ekaterina Rybolovleva. The heiress has also bought another smaller island, called Sparti, which is part of Athina Onassis' estate that has been help in trust for her by Onassis' lawyers.
Apparently the Russian heiress considers her new acquisition an investment. She intends to develop the island for tourism, albeit using environmentally friendly.
There are no news yet as to the fate of the late tycoon's remains, which are buried on Skorpios, together with Athina's mother Christina and Onassis' only son, Alexander.
