In what seems to be a copycat crime that resembles closely the incident in Great Britain where a soldier was hacked to death by crazed fundamentalists, a soldier in France was almost stabbed to death by unknown assailants.
The 25 year old soldier, named Cedric Cordier, was patrolling a metro station at the edge of Paris when an unknown assailant stabbed him in the neck.
The Paris police is conducting the investigation under the antiterrorist prosecutor's office's direction.
The assailant is still unkown. But his intentions and actions very closely mimic the UK incident of May 22nd.
The attack was very sudden and violent, leading authorities to believe that a fundamentalist is involved.
Right now, antiterrorist alert levels are at 2 on a scale of four, since the French have quelled an islamist rebellion in Mali.
