A NEW CURE FOR ASTHMA? GINGER COMPOUNDS PROVE EFFECTIVE IN ASTHMA TREATMENT

After news this week that vitamin D can help ameliorate asthma symptoms, new studies also reveal that ginger compounds can help treat the condition efficiently.

The results of the study were published by the American Thoracic Society at the international conference in Philadelphia this week.

Their study demonstrated how purified compounds from ginger can work well with beta antagonists to relax airways.  Beta antagonists are those classes of medications that are taken to relax the smooth muscle tissue in the bronchi.

In particular, 6-gingerol and 8-gingerol when taken with beta antagonists produced a significantly greater relaxation of the muscles than that observed in individuals taking only beta antagonists.

Apparently the ginger compounds specifically inhibit an enzyme that both impedes relaxation and promotes inflammation.  By inhibit such enzyme, they provide additional relief to the patient.
