Pakistani elections are never without danger. But the latest election looks more complicated than most.
After a resounding loss for the PTI which defied poll numbers, and the murder of one of its leaders, Zara Hussain, the recount ordered by the National Assembly has already overturned the election results in the city of Karachi.
In that city, the recount has given the PTI at least a one seat lead over the contested winner's party.
The latest results of the re-count, show that the PTI party got 77,000 votes against the MQM party's 31,000.
More protest demonstration against voting fraud are scheduled to take place in Karachi today. The winner of the election and his party have called for an end to the demonstrations, but Imran Khan is holding fast on his promise to challenge the election result.
The re-count also gives the PTI a regional seat, a first for Sindh province, which is traditionally a stronghold of Urdu speaking Muslims affiliated with the MQM party.
Therefore, the PTI will now have some measure of influence in decision making in the province, if not the power to govern the State.
