A red alert has been issued in the border region between Chile and Argentina, due to the imminent eruption of the Copahue volcano.
The 10,000 feet volcano is in the middle of the Andes range, and at this time is spewing a tall column of gas.
Just recently the volcano has begun to shake, and since then, thousands of tremors have been registered, a clear signal that there is renewed activity at the site.
The area is not densely populated, but at least 2000 people stand to be affected by a serious explosion.
An evacuation has been ordered for the area surrounding the volcano, for a radius of 25 miles.
Copahue is one of the most active volcanoes on the range and in that region.
Argentina at first had settled on an orange alert, but has since raised to a red and ordered the evacuation of about 600 people in the nearby village of Caviahue.
