North Korea, in a rare departure from the media blackout imposed on internal news, has notified International Health Authorities that ducks in a farm outside Pyongyang have tested positive for H5N1.
The Korean central news agency has transmitted on Sunday that the results came back positive back on May 7th.
They believe the ducks have contracted the virus from migratory birds. North Korea is a byway for many bird migrations as they travel south from the artic regions.
About 160,000 ducks were culled at the farm, in an effort to stamp out the outbreak.
Another 1,300 farming locations have been placed under surveillance for signs of the virus.
