SYRIA'S WIDENING CONFLICT : ISRAEL SUSPECTS HEZBOLLAH ATTACK FROM LEBANON ON BORDER VILLAGE

Israel suspects that Hezbollah rebels have struck inside the Israeli border with an assault launched from the Lebanese territory.  The attack was during the night on a border village.  Residents there have spoken of explosions nearby.

The border town of Metulla experienced loud booms.  But so far the Israeli army has not found the area of the ordnance's impact.

Officially the Lebanese government is mum, but its forces on the south border with Israel too have heard the blasts.  They too however, are at a loss on its provenance or nature.

Just yesterday, two rockets hit Hezbollah's enclave in Beirut, where some Shi'a denizens were hurt.  This attack apparently had been prompted by a declaration from Hezbollah that they would fight to the death to help Assad maintain his power over Syria.

One security source from the Lebanese side has said that rockets were indeed fired from Aitat, in the Mount Lebanon area, about 8 miles southwest of where the strikes hit.
