The news came this morning with a strident note: ex Attorney General Carla del Ponte, of the International Court in The Hague, has declared that the court has evidence that the chemical agents were used, but by the rebels.

One of the things that marked the discovery and evidence of the use of chemical weapons was the fact that president Obama has always maintained that there was not a solid 'chain of custody' in regards to the tapes made.

What is odd in the declaration by Ms. Del Ponte, is that the statement was made in Italian, in a non official role.  However, there are two independent investigations currently under way. One by the Tribunal for Human Rights in Switzerland, whose findings are related to Ms. Del POnte's statements, and a second one ordered by the United Nations, the results of which will be fundamental in determining the United States' stance on the Syrian war.

Ms Del Ponte also stated that she has seen proof that chemical weapons were used, but not irrefutable proof that sarin was used.

Of course this will play neatly into Bashar al Assad's hands, considering his repeated statements that it was the rebels who had used the gas as an agent provocateur.
