THE CHOCOLATE WARS - MARS AND NESTLE` ACCUSED OF PRICE FIXING

The world corporate giants seem to be constantly trying their hand at the old game of collusion, and price fixing.  Oil made the news two weeks ago. And now, it's chocolate's turn.

In a scandal that involves the practices of two candy giants, Nestle` and Mars, the Canadian authorities are now seeking to investigate and bring penalties against the two companies for price fixing.

The investigation began after a whistleblower provided the Competition Bureau, the antitrust agency in Canada, with all the necessary information to prove that they conspired, agreed or arranged to collude in a price fixing scheme.

The Commissioner of the Agency has already declared the two corporations' actions as egregious anti-competitive behavior which harms both the consumers and the competition.  It is by Canadian standards a very serious offense.

The companies face penalties upward of 10 million dollars and imprisonment of the guilty principals for up to five years.

Hershey Canada too was initially involved in the scandal, but avoided sanctions and fines by collaborating with the investigation.
