The ink has not even dried on the court order to detain Musharraf, that one of his judicial tormentors has already been eliminated.
Chaudry Zulfiqar Ali, one of the most important figures in the Pakistani legislature has all but stopped Musharraf's bid for reelection, when he declared that he had evidence to prove that Musharraf was implicated by negligence in Benazir Bhutto's assassination.
Zulfiqar was sprayed with bullets yesterday, as he was traveling to his office.
Choudry however, was also involved in the Mumbai terrorism case. The government immediately blamed the Taliban for Choudry's assassination, but many people suspect there might be more to it, especially since the incident comes so close to Musharraf's arrest, and the fact that for the first time a call to find those responsible for Ms. Butto's death was taken up by the courts.
The military responded very strongly at the news that Mr. Musharraf had been arrested. Many suspect that once more, the divisive forces of Pakistan's government structure and the military are playing out in the country ahead of the elections.
Of course Choudry was a man who could have been killed by many people. He had presided over some of the most controversial and dangerous procedures in Pakistan.
